Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV

“Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

Post Context/Backstory

+ + +

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Romans 12:1 KJV

+ + +

“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3

To what credit is my love limited only to those I love? My God, help me love my enemies, turning my conditional lending to Love’s unconditional giving.

And as I try and fail and try again,
God, be merciful to me, a sinner

“Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.”
Psalm 51:11

+ + +

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

Season my broken spirit with the salt of my tears, O Saviour. Let my brokenhearted sacrifices salt the suffering world in the flavour of Your enduring love.

With these, clear my iniquities and sight —
O Lord, enlighten my darkness

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:17

+ + +

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5

If I have found favour with You, my King, and if it pleases You to grant my petition and fulfill my request, then may I, a wretched sinner, commit to You my life lived in Your name.

Who am I to offer anything else but my ready pleading,
Lord, as You will, as You know, have mercy

“Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation.” Psalm 51:12

+ + +

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

Heavenly Father, I do not want to trade away — not for a morsel of fleeting worldliness — my birthright as an heir to Your Kingdom, where repentance opens righteousness far exceeding all the world’s temptations.

This is my victory cry against my appetites’ rumblings:
Lord, give me strength for the fight

“O Lord, open Thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth Thy praise.” Psalm 51:15

+ + +

“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” Matthew 5:7

How shall I soften my heart, good Shepherd, to affirm Your mercy to we who have eyes but do not see and ears but do not hear?

As I fall in forgetfulness of Your way,
Lord, increase my faith

“Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness.” Psalm 51:14

+ + +

“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8

If my heart causes me to sin, then how much more so am I called to break and cast it to You, Christ Jesus, Who heals the brokenhearted? For it is more profitable that the old me perishes than for the new me to be lost to sin.

But I am torn to pieces and know not who I am anymore.
O God make haste to help me; O Lord make speed to save me

“For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.” Psalm 51:3

+ + +

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9

When the world strikes me down, I am to extend all of me up to You, O Lord, in proactive service to this anguished place. When the world demands miles, go with me Lord, to testify the cloak of Your love.

Yet knowing You raise me, here I transgress spiritually paralyzed —
Lord, I believe; help my unbelief

“Then will I teach transgressors Thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto Thee.” Psalm 51:13

+ + +

“Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven” Matthew 5:12a

Most Holy God, I strive to transform my hands, my head, my heart, my everything in service to You as a living prayer, at each moment praising Your great love.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, Your servant, a sinner
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us
O Lord, forgive me and have mercy

“Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51:2

+ + +

“And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2 KJV
