Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV

“Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

Cradled in Christ’s Arms | When the world is overwhelming

February 16, 2014 - Author: Bernadette Saddik

To close my eyes, never enough in the blinding light;
but shielded by God’s comforting arms.

To hear noise all around me;
but God’s voice is the only sound.

To take a deep breath in the stench;
and smell God’s sweet, sweet air.

To taste a taste so satisfying,
that I’m never hungry again.

To hit my hip against a corner;
and instead of a curse, comes praise.

To stretch out my arms, stiff and cracking;
and still grasp on what God has arranged.

The pain, it doesn’t hurt any less;
but God protects my soul.

From the maliciousness of these attacks;
from the overwhelming, caustic senses.

By His grace my spirit is not defeated,
I know that one day I’ll be healed.

For I am a child of the Almighty King.
For I am a sheep of the Good Shepherd.
For I am an infant in the arms of the Comforter.
For I am always His.

“Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.” Psalm 91:3-7 KJV

Life doesn’t turn like the pages of a book…

February 19, 2013 - Author: Bernadette Saddik

Not the kind of book we imagine.
It is a work of art the Father brilliantly creates.
It is a stunning blueprint, a gorgeous picture, an awesome performance.

So let us pray that our will is God’s will, and bring forth beautiful light in the darkness of this world.

Yes, darkness will come. But in His mercy, He blesses us through that. Each moment is either bright, or it is not, in which case the light seems brighter.

When we fall, rising makes us closer to the Shepherd, as He gently lifts us and holds us nearer. Not only so…

He takes every arrow evil throws at us and turns it around a hundred times.

Evil may be a near infinite power, but God is infinite, and He, with His flock, prevails in His masterpiece plan.

But even with His kindness, I sometimes still feel so very broken, not at all marvelous. Then, He lovingly reminds me that…

Courage, true courage, is the courage to say, “I am weak.” That
Bravery, true bravery is to ask for help.
Wisdom, to accept that help. And
Knowledge, to know that it is not by my power.

Isn’t that a relief?

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7 NIV

Courage, Bravery, Wisdom, Knowledge

When in the dark I pray,

January 21, 2013 - Author: Bernadette Saddik

An endless horizon of the surf meets the sky. As I look up, I see the stars proclaim God’s majesty.
…..I see an enduring Fortress.
…..I see His infinite love for me.
In His creation He shows me His breath-taking splendor. In His mercy, the Father reveals that what I comprehend now is only a sliver of His grandeur.
…..It is more magnificent than my heart can fathom.
By His grace, the Spirit stirs within me, granting me a taste of His satiating tranquility.

My eyes glaze over the silhouette of the tamed tide.
In the caressing ocean breeze, His hand brushes away the hot streams on my cheeks. In the swirling winds He hugs me close.
…..He tells me of His love, that He will never let go.

How can the sheep drown when the Shepherd carries her?

I dig my face in His open shoulders, screaming in rage and frustration, my mind lost in the chaos.
He comforts me with the assurance of a time with neither grief nor guilt, neither embarrassment nor agony.
…..There will be no knives, shots, shocks, throbs.
I will jump in dance without crackling lightning.  I will, with untiring voice, sing loud songs of praise without crumpling in piercing pain.

But for now, He reminds me that every time I fall, no matter how hard, it is always on His hand from which He gently lifts me.
He does not want His children to hurt. Yet, this is the course of life here, the consequence of sin, the battle against evil.
…..Out of it, He promises to teach me closeness to Him that I may approach nearer His full measure; to guide me in helping others that they may suffer less; to strengthen my spirit that my body will not defeat me.

This undertaking, He guarantees, is not nor will ever be in vain.

On the cross, Christ gladly bore the pressing weight of all my tears.
With His victory over death, He inspires faith, hope, joy that each drop brings me one step closer to eternal bliss.
…..In the meantime, every stab needs not be hauled by me. In fact, I am weak and capable of nothing without God–only by His power is this burden overcome.

God urges me to open my heart to Him.
…..He resonates with the sensibilities of my soul as He declares that He is the Voice which rebukes the sea, and it fearfully obeys. He clothes the withering grass and feeds the fleeting sparrow.

My child, He pleads, follow Me and know how much more I will use My power to love, to grow, and to protect you.

I breathe deeply as His whisper immerses me in peace.

I listen to my Lord’s sweet song from the lumbering waves lulling my soul to everlasting serenity.

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God.” Psalm 42:11 NIV
